I might finally have found a venue for the show. The club is called Tribecca, and I am in current negotiations for the rental of their space. Let's all cross fingers, guys. |

Forgive the long hiatus from updates. I didnt make it to the Trace Fury show. I have nothing new to report about that. I'm still trying to work out a deal with World/Inferno. I'll have to call Can Sertoglu (their manager) tomorrow. I updated my interests slightly. |

This Thursday at Tritone, Trace Fury (perhaps the best philly local band in versatility and style) will be playing their final show. I love their music some good, and having never seen them play prior, I will absolutely be making this show. For those of you that would like to go, it's at 9pm on September 9th at Tritone, 15th and South streets in Philadelphia. I will, of course, be reviewing the show once i get in from it. |

Andrew has finally returned my mail. We agreed upon the $650 package which involves all 6 members and some theatrics. In addition, he will be sending some wondrous promo things in the mail that i may distribute. I'm thinking about making demo discs to advertise for the show. I've gotten his OK to distribute his music freely on the compact disc medium. heh. As for the line-up, I'm trying to get one Big-name band (Low Budgets, WIFS, Leftover Crack, or any other accessible large name that any of you can suggest) and one small name band(if you have a band or know a band and happen to read this, send me an email and we'll see about working something out). The lineup will most likely run thusly:
The New Minority (Friend's Band. They're opening free of charge) Small-name Band Hellblinki or Big-name Band (The two can be mutually interchangeable) Headlining band (whoever hasn't played yet IE Hellblinki or the big-name band)
Any non-musical performance artists interested in entertaining in between sets? |

mood: drained music: The World/Inferno Friendship Society - Peter Lorre
|
The Polyphonic Spree show this past sunday had its ups and downs. List:
Ups Well-played High energy Good sound quality Great showmanship
Downs Audience seemed unreceptive* Started late (by about an hour) Disorganized Difficult to move to the bathroom or to buy water
*No singing along, dancing, or merriment in the least. The Philly Indie-Scene should have a stereotype for having sticks up their asses. From my vantage point at the front right of the show, looking around i counted only 6 people, myself included, who were visibly enjoying themselves. The venue was sold out. Over 100 in attendance. Less than 6 percent visibly enjoying the show. Sad.
No further news involving Hellblinki booking. I've received no reply emails since the last one I'd written about. |

I was going to see The World/Inferno Friendship Society on this Thursday passed, but my friends didn't have tix and the show was sold out. Instead, we played card games in the plaza of a business center in Center City Philadelphia until about 3AM. We also ordered 50 bucks worth of Chinese food.
Now for business talk:
The Hellblinki Sextet and i have come just a step closer to an agreement for pricing. 350 for 3 to 6 members, but no theatrics, 650 for 6 members plus theatrics and 1450 for a full out show with fire-breathing etc etc etc. i would pay the 1450 if i could get a cheap band to headline who would bring in a huge amount of people... perhaps a band with cult-like status... perhaps WIFS! I need to start negotiations with WIFS sometime soon. Hellblinki isn't busy come November and that gives adequate time to book WIFS. I will, however, most likely have moved to Nashville, Tennessee by that time, but would nonetheless return to the Philadelphia area for the show. Who says you need to live in the city in which you are booking the show?
Anyone know of any venues that hold 200+ people? I hear The Fire on Girard avenue can hold 200 people legally, but i just don't see that tiny rinky-dink hole-in-the-wall holding so many. I'd tried to call them, but i refuse to leave a message knowing that i most likely will not get a return call. instead, I've sent an email asking them how many they can legally hold.
The Church of Divine Energy in University City is a possibility, however, i feel that they may have too much of a strangle hold of control over the entire show itself. Besides, I don't think they allow for fire-breathing.
There is also the possibility of finding a nice banquet hall to rent for the night, no food, just a show, and see what they have to say about that. It would be amazing if they allowed for it! |

Hellblinki is being somewhat ambiguous about booking them. Andrew replied finally, but with no mention of the price; just a simple question: "We do everything from a solo act, to a full extravaganza with actors, fire and multimedia. What sort of show do you have in mind?" I'm sure the reason for this reply is to let me know that pricing varies according to the type of show booked. Of course, a full-service set would be preferred, but i don't know if i can front that sorta cash. So then, let's see what their reply is when i asked for more specific information on booking. |

I've been trying to get in contact with Andrew from The Hellblinki Sextet in order to negotiate booking the band here in Philadelphia. However, i've not recieved an email in response yet. It's only been a day, heh, so perhaps i should exercise some patience. I think i may book them at a rather crappy hole-in-the-wall type of venue called The Fire. It isn't so bad, but they do overcharge for use of their club and subpar sound system: two hundred fifty dollars. I'm hoping to be able to grab some of my friends bands to open for free as i am sure i can talk them into it, and if i get them to play, they can bring their friends who will add to the total number of people that will come to the show. I'm planning this for mid to late September. |

And so, here it is: a new blog. Although somehow doubtful that i will keep it up, just as i fail to keep up many of my other blog, i hope to be able to at least be introduced to some new music and likewise introduce others to new music. So then, the point of this blog is to find people with which to share files over AIM, Yahoo, or MSN Messenger. Email would work, too. Let's hope for an enlarged music collection for everyone! |
